Good afternoon everyone, hope all’s well.
I’ve arrived in Germany, and I’m staying in such a fairy tale house in Potsdam, near Berlin. It’s from the 1860’s (if I remember correctly) and it is often used as a film set for movies and TV series. Homeland was filmed here! Everything looks like it’s from the 19th century, and my new office here is complete with a gramophone and globe.
Almost just in the back yard are the grounds of the castle Sanssouci, which are just gorgeous, filled with fountains and statues and the most wonderful trees and flowers, with a lovely river cutting through it all.
And best of all here in Potsdam: I’m reunited with my friend. I met her at university and we have stayed close ever since. We wandered through the grounds, up by the castle and the old windmill and through a park to a café and restaurant, where we had coffee and cake and sparkling wine. A perfect afternoon.
Today we are travelling up to my friend’s old, decaying castle, where we’ll be camping out all weekend with some fifteen other people. I’m sure it will be a challenge for me to be in such a heavy environment, but I’m hoping everything will be fine and I’ll be able to just enjoy the party. I don’t know what the internet connection will be like so you might not hear from me until next week, but we’ll see!
